Languages

When Emperor Qin first became the first emperor he made a simplified language from all the other Chinese languages so China could talk to each other, they were united and it helped economic growth and build ties between different provinces because they could all communicate with each other. Many old Chinese characters were abolished because there was no use for it anymore. Standardising the Chinese language opened many doors for China, people from different states could communicate with each other and trades could be made easier. What would have been fascinating for people during those times is that they knew that in the future China could learn and understand what happened in the past by reading the same language people all over the world use to this day. The capital of Shaanxi was the starting point for the silk road so it made more sense for the languages to be the same so that everyone could speak the same language and everyone would be able to communicate easier so they could continue to move along.

Shaanxi did not create their own language however they did pick up languages from countries and provinces around them and on their border. In Shaanxi, the main language spoken is Han, 99% of the population in Shaanxi speak Han which made it easier when communicating with other people within their society. The other main languages spoken there are; Zhongwen Mandarin, Southwestern Mandarin and Jin. Most of the people in Shaanxi are Han, they speak the Northwest dialect of the Mandarin language. These languages are also in Shaanxi because other provinces and countries that border Shaanxi speak the same languages, this made their life easier because they have more opportunities to trade since they understand each other. Religions also effect the languages spoke in Shaanxi, for example, Chinese Muslim also known as Hui communities continue living in the south and northwest of the province and many languages would be used. Standard Chinese language was split into two different categories (traditional and simplified) to make learning and speaking the language easier and simple. 92% of  China’s population speak Han Chinese and 20% of the World speaks Han Chinese and Han was the very first version of the Chinese language, to make the community feel united, Han people used their language to communicate and work as a team (hanzu). After the population of Shaanxi went over 27 million people, life was much easier when most of the languages were the same, it would bring them closer and happier together.
